9:30 packed and ready to leave Airbnb. First we had breakfast, croissants, eclair, and coffee at the restaurant across the street. We met our host, Ann, at 10 o’clock.
Headed to Port-en-Bessin-Huppain by the sea. Walked around center and the Sunday morning street market. Lovely little fishing village by the sea.
Drove about 5 miles along the coast to
Arromanches where WWII Mulberry Harbor was built. We could see the 80 year old remains of it.
We ate sea bass and potatoes at La Petit Plage. Walked around a little.
The road to Caen was narrow and went through rural areas and small villages before we got on a divided highway. We arrived at the train station we were at when we arrived from Paris.
We left our bags in the rental car and walked about a mile to the Chateau. We didn’t realize it was just the ruins of a chateau. The was a museum we walked through about the history of the people of Normandy.
It was raining when we started back the station, we got wet but not drenched. Decided to take Uber to Brittany Ferries in Ouistreham and wait there. Car was a Tesla, the drive in the rain took about 30 minutes. Its 7:00 pm, we can’t board ferry until 10:45, but we’re here. NO MISSING THE BOAT like we missed our train in London.
Waited in ferry station 4 hours. Not crowded and clean restrooms unlike train station in Caen.
Somehow my boarding ticket was lost when I went through border control. Security wouldn’t let me board. Don got very agitated. It took about 10 minutes for ticket agent to OK me and we boarded. Woman at information decks on ferry gave me another ticket which was our room key also.
Cabin was very small with two narrow twin beds, But it had toilet, sink, and tiny shower. We both got five or six hours of sleep as the ferry crossed the English Channel to Portsmouth.
